[edit] Description

It is generally built manually in a natural environment with local materials : branches, leaves, logs, bushes, etc. ... Less commonly, it can also be made of materials such as metal (iron), cloth or plastic (sheeting), and be located in an unnatural area such as a backyard or on the water (stilts).

[edit] Uses

The hut can be used as a place to live or just as a storing place. It can also be a shelter and a camouflage for hunting, fishing or simple observation of wildlife. Besides, building a small hut, at home or in a forest is a playful and cooperative activity for children.

[edit] How to build a hut

The hut is essential where self-construction is needed, in areas where vehicles cannot access. But beyond self-construction, the hut is an eco-construction which can be an ecological lifestyle, primitivist (denigration of industrial technologies), or simply unconventional choice (natural materials). As a matter of fact, if you stop in a quiet place in nature, you have but one alternative to the tent: building a hut. You have 2 options:

In both cases, a tent or a hut is essential. Only, the problem is it's difficult to actually live in a tent, even more so to store equipment... . Building temporary huts will be the solution. In summer, you need to fight rain and insects, in winter, cold and wind.

[edit] Legislation

Building a hut may first mean applying for permission, this is only possible with building land, this makes it quite expensive compared to farming land.

Yet in some cases, there'll be no need of building permission (at least in the UK) :

In any case, it's highly recommended to ask the local authorities as the legislation may differ according to the area.
