Seasteading is the activity of homesteading in a water environment. Seasteading is traditional in many cultures around the world, especially China and SE Asia, where natural harbors and the relative freedom of a water-borne lifestyle provide relief from overcrowding, oppression, and high costs of land ashore.

In the modern era, among westerners, Seasteading is usually based on specially modified sailboats.
